With skills he learned in the film and media program at Calvin, Jack Deindorfer is bringing added meaning to the services at Ada Bible Church.
Deindorfer graduated in the spring of 2021, and started working part time as a video content producer for the church shortly after. The flexibility of his part-time job gave him the opportunity to spend the summer after graduation working with Professor Geert Heetebrij on his film “Vronika.”
“That was a really cool opportunity, working on a film with one of my professors and getting to add my input,” he said.
By the end of the summer, the church hired him full time to work on its Service Programming Team. The team produces all the media that goes into the church’s weekend services, in addition to creating videos of baptisms and other events.
He said he learned a lot of technical skills at Calvin, like how to use the various equipment and tools, and how to conduct himself on a set. And the liberal arts focus helped make him into a creative thinker and problem solver.
But he said his film and media professors taught him one other thing that turned out to be very important: Being respectful and courteous of others, treating them kindly and with care, goes a long way.
“If you’re personable and respectful and you work hard, people are really generous in the opportunities they’ll give you, and they will work with you to help you grow,” he said.
