Some Calvin fans from coast to coast were starting to grumble a little bit. Despite winning a number of the recent games with rival Hope College’s Flying Dutchmen over the years, the last five “Rivalry” broadcasts had ended with the Blue and Orange defeating the Maroon and Gold.
When this is the game you watch with Calvin and Hope fans, it is nice to leave the restaurant with a victory once in a while.
Time for a new script.
The Calvin Knights provided just that with a convincing 88-64 win that provided a happy conclusion to the 70-plus viewing sites across North America and the world.
This year, The Rivalry even drew a New York Times reporter to the game, and the resulting story was titled “Rivalry’s Edict: Drub Thy Neighbor.” The article detailed much of the history and a snapshot of the importance of the game to both sides.
