When the Entrada Scholars Program started in 1991, it welcomed about a dozen students. This summer that number will grow to about 100, thanks to a generous donation by Meijer Corporate, which has agreed to double its support of Entrada. This academic achievement program is designed to provide ethnic minority high school juniors and seniors with the tools for successful college enrollment and completion.
Since its inception, more than 1,100 students have graduated from Entrada, with 96 percent of those students choosing to pursue higher education. Nygil Likely, Calvin director of pre-college programs, says Entrada is one way the college shows its commitment to ensuring that academically talented students have access to higher education.
“We are working to give all students access to higher education, regardless of income, color or creed,” Likely said.
