Men’s Cross Country

Calvin captured its 29th consecutive MIAA title, placing first at the MIAA jamboree and MIAA championships.
Junior Zac Nowicki (Comstock Park, Mich.) took first place at the MIAA championships, was named the MIAA’s Most Valuable Runner for the second straight year and landed a spot on the All-MIAA first team. He was joined on the All-MIAA first team from Calvin by seniors Jeff Meitler (New Berlin, Wis.) and Ethan Anderson (Stillwater, Minn.) and sophomores Andrew Philipose (Mount Prospect, Ill.) and Mark DeJong (Grand
Rapids, Mich.).
Calvin advanced to the NCAA III Championships for the 31st time in school history and placed 23rd. Philipose was Calvin’s top finisher, placing 76th individually.
Women’s soccer
- RECORD: 21-3-2 overall
- COACH: Mark Recker
Calvin captured the outright MIAA regular-season title and then captured the MIAA tournament crown, defeating Olivet in the semifinals and Hope in the championship game.
Calvin advanced to the NCAA III Tournament for the third time in the last four years and for the 11th time in school history. Calvin advanced to the national quarterfinal round of the NCAA III Tournament before bowing to Centre College (Ky.).
Senior Taylor Ten Harmsel
(Holland, Mich.) was named a third team Division III All-American and was named the MIAA’s Most Valuable Player. She was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-American second team. Ten Harmsel was also a first team All-MIAA choice, along with seniors Paige Capel (Hudsonville, Mich.) and Kelsey Hiegel (Mundelein, Ill.).
Women’s Cross Country

Calvin took second at the MIAA jamboree and at the MIAA championships, finishing five points behind Hope.
Junior Lauren Strohbehn (Stillwater, Minn.) took first place individually at the MIAA championships and MIAA jamboree, earning MIAA MVP honors. She also landed a spot on the All-MIAA first team and was joined on the first team from Calvin by sophomore Kate McLain (Kalamazoo, Mich.). Strohbehn later took first place at the Great Lakes Regional meet and was named the Great Lakes Regional Athlete of the Year.
Calvin then advanced to the NCAA III Championships for the 26th time in school history and placed 30th. Strohbehn was the top finisher, placing 40th individually.
Men’s Soccer
- RECORD: 24-1-1 overall
- COACH: Ryan Souders
Calvin captured its ninth consecutive MIAA regular-season title with a perfect regular season and established a school record for victories in a season, while senior goalkeeper Niko Giantsopoulos (Markham, Ont.) set a new NCAA III single-season record for shutouts (19).
Calvin advanced to the NCAA III Tournament for the ninth consecutive year and reached the NCAA III Tournament semifinals for the third time in school history.
Calvin senior defender Nick Groenewold (Oak Brook, Ill.) was named the MIAA’s Most Valuable Player and was later named a first team Division III All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Calvin sophomore John Admiraal (Pella, Iowa) also received the NCAA III Elite 90 Award prior to the national semifinals in Kansas City, Mo.
Groenewold, Giantsopoulos, senior Taylor Pruis (Grand Rapids, Mich.); juniors Isky VanDoorne (Calgary, Alta.) and Stephan Hooker (Hudsonville, Mich.); and freshman Trent Vegter (Hudsonville, Mich.) were all named to the All-MIAA first team.
Men’s Golf
- RECORD: 2nd place MIAA
- COACH: Brian Bolt
Calvin placed second in the MIAA fall team standings to qualify for the MIAA’s 54-hole spring tournament, which determines the league’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA III Championships in May.
Sophomore Ben Van Scoyk (Grand Rapids, Mich.) was named to the All-MIAA first team and was named the MIAA’s Most Valuable Golfer after finishing first in the final MIAA individual standings. Sophomore John Van Noord (Troy, Mich.) finished second in the final MIAA individual standings and also was named to the All-MIAA first team.
Women’s Golf

Calvin junior Jennie Poole (Summit, N.J.) placed eighth in the final MIAA individual standings. Junior Casey Harkema (Holt, Mich.) also placed in the MIAA’s top 20, finishing 16th individually.
Women’s volleyball
- RECORD: 30-4 overall
- COACH: amber warners
Calvin captured the MIAA title with a 16-0 league mark. The Knights then claimed their fifth consecutive MIAA tournament title and advanced to the NCAA III Tournament for the 25th time in school history, where they were defeated in the regional final.
Senior Maggie Kamp (Orland Park, Ill.) was named the MIAA’s Most Valuable Player for the second straight year. Junior Laura Danhoff (Willard, Ohio) was also named to the All-MIAA first team. Freshman Anna Kamp (Orland Park, Ill.) was named the MIAA’s Freshman of the Year.
Coach Amber Warners was named the AVCA’s Great Lakes Regional Coach of the Year. Maggie Kamp was named to the AVCA Division III All-American first team while Lodewyk was named to the second team and Danhoff to third team.
Maggie Kamp and Lodewyk were both named Division III CoSIDA Academic All-Americans with Kamp named to the first team and Lodewyk the third team. In addition, Kamp was named the CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year for the second straight season.
