Robert D. Woodberry is director of the Project on Religion and Economic Change and associate professor of political science at the National University of Singapore. He uses both historical and statistical methods to test how Protestant and Catholic missionaries influenced the societies where they worked. His very provocative findings about missionaries appear in the American Political Science Review, the Journal of Democracy, and elsewhere, and have won eight outstanding research awards: including four from the American Political Science Association, and two from the American Sociological Association.
