The touring ensemble Soprani Compagni will perform the musical rendition of the story of Mary and Martha. The text is based on three poems by New York Times award-winning poet Nikki Grimes, and explores, in a very nuanced way, issues of faith and devotion, especially in light of traditional roles of women. The music is by music department Professor David Fuentes. This Grimes/Fuentes collaboration was commissioned as part of the project “New Works Symposium: Portraits of Women in Contemporary Soprano Duet” and was premiered late in 2015.
