Pride and Prejudice

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE

By Jane Austen, adapted by Simon Reade

"Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us."

—Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice

"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife." And it is equally true that a young woman of little fortune must choose a husband of some fortune in order to secure her future.

Pride and Prejudice is one of Jane Austin’s most beloved novels: a comedy of manners in which the business of marriage takes center stage. Will Mrs. Bennet have the joy of marrying off her five daughters? Shall Mr. Bingley finally choose for himself a wife? Will the machinations of Wickham and Collins ruin the Bennet girls’ chance at happiness? And, is it prejudice or pride that prevent Elizabeth and Darcy from truly seeing the other’s merit?

The dance of love and money take Austin’s characters on a complicated promenade in this delightful stage adaptation. Come enjoy the romp!
