On April 6, 2005, Captain Scotty Smiley lost the use of both eyes when a suicide car bomber blew himself up thirty meter in front of Scotty's Stryker vehicle. Since that day, Smiley hasn't let his blindness stop him from doing the things he loves and has written a memoir about his experiences called Hope Unseen.
