Exploring the Role of Neuronal Support Cells in Autoimmune Disease
For the last 100 years, scientists have researched the role of neurons in autoimmune diseases. However, in recent years, there has been a shift towards focusing on neuronal support cells, the findings of which have enlightened the scientific community's understanding of disease models. With this new information, researchers are seeking to understand the unique mechanisms that lead to clinical symptoms, in hopes of improving treatment for individuals with autoimmune diseases. Come hear about the work being done to understand the role of astrocytes and mast cells in neuromyelitis optica.
