The Early Music Consort of Grand Rapids is an ensemble of musicians from Calvin College and the Grand Rapids area dedicated to the performance of early music on historical instruments. The ensemble performs widely in West Michigan, offering concerts and educational programs ranging from songs and dances of the Middle Ages and Renaissance to the masterpieces of solo and chamber music of the Baroque era. Founded in the 1970s, the Early Music Consort is currently led by Calvin Stapert and Timothy Steele, and the membership expands and contracts as repertoire demands. For the 2014-15 season they are joined by sopranos Benita Wolters-Fredlund and Lisa Walhout, tenor Keith Fredlund, guitarist William Brettschneider, and harpsichordist David Diephouse, and their program features music of the 17th-century, including Monteverdi's Scherzi Musicali and a variety of sacred and secular music by Schütz, Purcell and others.
TICKETS: Admission is FREE.
