The Mathematics and Statistics Colloquium on October 14 will feature Dr. Todd Kapitula.
Kapitula is a professor in the Mathematics and Statistics Department, and has titled his lecture "Modeling Religious Affiliation."
A simple mathematical model can be used to describe how the religiously observant proportion of a population group dynamically changes over time. Dr. Kapitula will talk about how this model can be understood in the simple case of one group, and extended to cover many interacting groups. We will see how the prestige associated with religious (non)observance plays a significant role in the dynamics.
Join us for light refreshments in the Reading Room at 3:30, immediately followed by the lecture in NH 276.
