A musical prelude to our festival keynote lecture
Parlor Voice originated in the Spring of 2014 in the basement of Schultze-Eldersveld residence hall at Calvin College. Songwriter Johnson Cochran has taken the project from its confessional beginnings to the macabre, psychedelic pop it is now. That Parlor Voice is "guided by" Guided by Voices is no secret to Cochran, who also draws inspiration from The National, Red House Painters, and Fred Thomas. In the Spring of 2017, Cochran enlisted Sam Steenwyk for lead guitar, Daniel Hickey for bass, and Spencer Brown for drums, with plans for a Summer 2017 tour and album release.
