Join us in the Meeter Center for a free public presentation by visiting fellow John Simons: "The Puritan Vision for Church and Commonwealth in Connecticut and New Haven (1638-1665)."
The puritans who founded the colonies of Connecticut and New Haven sought to create commonwealths where the churches could fulfill their role of calling members of their society to salvation and sanctification. They hoped that their church reforms would lead to a more godly society. In order to pursue this goal the magistrates created laws to support the role of the church and to protect the church and ministers from undue attack.
