Leader
Dr. Jennifer Holberg is professor of English and co-director of the Calvin Center for Faith & Writing. She is a popular CALL teacher, and she has led Calvin student interim classes to study Dante in Florence.
Tour pace
While this tour will have a more moderate overall pace than some alumni/CALL trips (1-3 stops per day with plenty of free time), please note that tour participants will still spend significant time on their feet. On some of the days, you will be walking from your lodging to the tour destinations, along with the walking you'll do through the galleries, churches, and museums. Participants can expect to walk on cobblestone streets, uneven ground, hills, and stairways. Please contact Dr. Holberg if you have additional questions about the tour pace and the walking involved.
Accommodations
Home base for this tour will be Sanctuary Firenza, the convent guest house of the Suore Oblate. The rooms are simple and all beds in the guest house are single beds, but this tranquil setting in the heart of Florence will provide a delightful setting for our tour group. A light continental breakfast is provided each morning.
Cost
The cost is $5295 per person from Grand Rapids, based on double occupancy, with $295 supplement for single accommodations. See the "cancellations and refunds" section of the tour brochure for info on cancellation fees.
Optional travel protection is available through Travelex Insurance Services. See their website for an overview of what coverage is included or excluded related to COVID-19, and see the tour brochure for a link to the full policy.
