Navigating the New Normal: Watershed Restoration in Context of Climate Change
Each spring we gather to learn more about our watershed and then take action to improve the health and beauty of Plaster Creek. Many old and new friends of Plaster Creek come to learn, engage with upstream and downstream neighbors, and become involved in making a difference. We invite you to celebrate Earth Day with our watershed community.
This year we welcome Dr. David Karowe, Professor of Biological Sciences at Western Michigan University who studies the effects of rising atmospheric CO2 on plants and higher levels in the food chain. This presentation will address global and regional climate change, and the likely effects of climate change on aquatic and other ecosystems in the Great Lakes Region.
Following his talk, we will break into groups to take restorative action for the watershed. The amount of work accomplished in one morning by this group of volunteers is amazing. The activities range from transplanting native plant seedlings in the greenhouse to installing plants and trees in the watershed. There will also be rain barrels available for people who would like to make and take one home! So come dressed to get messy and bring a friend.
