As campuses and classrooms diversify, educators are asking what it means to design faith-shaped, inclusive learning environments that celebrate gifts, uncover injustice, and explore restoration locally and globally. While educators might hold clear visions for equitable and transformative education, they are less confident about how to actually pull this off. Wolterstorff (2004) suggests that when it comes to teaching justice and mercy “we obviously have to engage in some radical rethinking of our pedagogical strategies.” The Sacred Space Pedagogy project creates spaces for radical pedagogical rethinking by unearthing complexity within ordinary teaching-learning activity. This talk invites you to consider how wearing skin (embodiment) and using stuff (semiotics) powerfully shapes learning spaces and learners. Come find out what happens when people gather in supportive contexts to re-imagine how to engage with others in the risky, but essential learning work of justice and mercy
