One of the simplest ways to decompose a positive integer is to partition it. For example, we can partition 9 as 5+2+1+1. Despite the simple definition, a wealth of interesting results are known about these objects and their related structures. In this talk we will consider two families of results; the Rogers-Ramanujan congruences and Young's lattice. We will see the classical results as well as current related research using generalized partitions.
Refreshments precede the talk at 3:30 p.m. in North Hall 282.
