Calvin's Mathematics and Statistics Department Colloquium speaker on Thursday, March 11 at 3:40 pm will give a talk entitled: "March Madness Data Analytics Battle."
Join the Mathematics and Statistics Department in welcoming Dr. Valorie Zonneveld, Associate Professor of Mathematics at Dordt University, our speaker for the March 11 Colloquium.
Learn about a new competition being used in middle schools and high schools to introduce students to data analysis. This low floor, high ceiling activity has a track record of igniting student interest in using data to make informed decisions tied to the NCAA basketball tournament. The competition is different from the typical March Madness bracket competition in using previous years data to create an algorithm that selects teams for the tournament. Bring your laptop to test your hand at algorithm creation. This is a can’t miss event as Dordt University invites Calvin University to a collegiate-level data analytics battle with a $25 Culver’s gift card and sister university bragging rights to the winner.
To be invited to this virtual event, send an email to Dr. Sunukjian at nss9@calvin.edu.
