Dune Research Presentations (FYRES)
Thursday, December 5, 2019
2:00pm – 3:15pm
NH 078
Student research teams from the First-Year Research in Earth Sciences (FYRES) program present on their research projects and results. Topics include investigating effects of sand fences, looking at the relationship between Pitcher’s thistle (a rare dune plant) and sand fences, patterns of Pitcher’s thistle in an active blowout, relationships between dune advance and vegetation in another active blowout, and the relationship between sediment budgets and foredune dynamics. Research locations were west Michigan coastal dune sites including Hoffmaster State Park, several Ottawa County Parks (Rosy Mound Natural Area, Mt. Pisgah, Kirk Park and North Beach dune), and Kitchel-Lindquist-Hartger Dunes Preserve.
