Ensemble Montage
Formed in 1997, Ensemble Montage is dedicated to presenting kaleidoscopic combinations of chamber music ranging from the baroque trio sonata to music written by the group's very much alive member-composer Alexander Miller. The group specializes in repertoire that mixes strings, woodwinds, and piano. The group expands and contracts as repertoire demands – they've added percussion, voice, trumpet, an extra viola, double bass, and even accordion on occasion.
A note from the members of Ensemble Montage:
Hello all,
Well it's time. Thursday November 1st at 7:30pm Ensemble Montage will be performing it's annual new music concert at the Calvin College Covenant Fine Arts Center Recital Hall (as in the past two years). We will be performing music of John Cage (who would have been 100 this year), Timothy Andres (who's in town this week for a feature with the Grand Rapids Symphony-- not to be missed), Mario Davidovsky's "Synchronisms #8" for winds and electronics, Arvo Part's take on Mozart, Poul Ruders take on a medieval Rondeau (with guitarist Andrew Bergeron of Folias fame), and, just in time for election day, Schoenberg's 1944 "Ode to Napoleon", his setting of Lord Byron's tirade against despotism back when it was quaintly identifiable in one individual human being. For the Schoenberg Joel Navarro, director of many choirs at Calvin, will be joining us to recite the text. He blew us away at our first rehearsal so just make sure you join us.
Hope your autumn is going well and that we see you soon,
The members of Ensemble Montage
