Come join the Calvin Community Symphony for its second concert of its 26th Season on Saturday, March 7 at 3:00 p.m. at the CFAC auditorium. This concert will feature Andrew Plasier, a 2016 graduate of Calvin University, performing Haydn’s virtuosic cello concerto and the dark sounds of Tchaikovsky’s and Schubert B minor symphonies.
Our concert begins with Ancient Airs and Dances Suite No. 1, in which Respighi orchestrates Renaissance ballads, dances, and even the scene of a masquerade ball in this charming suite. Then the orchestra performs Haydn’s virtuosic and unique D major cello concerto with Andrew Plasier. The second half of this concert offers a great contrast with the beautiful dark sounds of Schubert’s “Unfinished” 8th Symphony paired with the final two movements of Tchaikovsky’s tragic 6th Symphony.
