Judy Bode, BSN My Heart, Your Hands Inc.
I am a Calvin College alumnus of 1982 where I studied nursing. My roots at Calvin go much deeper as my parents, my sisters, and our children all attended Calvin. My father also was a Calvin College professor of Classical languages for 35 years.
Recently, I produced a documentary, Resilient, for the purpose of educating and equipping cancer patients, communities, medical students, and physicians about the late effects of cancer cures. Resilient includes personal testimony of cancer survivors and expert interviews with cardiologists and oncologists about these late effects.
My story begins at age10 with a diagnosis of a thought-to-be incurable cancer. That was 44 years ago. Resilient follows this journey of cancer, secondary malignancies, heart failure, heart transplant, and recovery.
There are many reasons that I should not have survived these multiple life threatening diagnoses. Yet, by God's seemingly endless grace, He has chosen to sustain my life. I am honored to share my story with you. May you learn and grow from my experiences as a cancer survivor, a heart transplant recipient, and as a child of God.
