Classically trained on piano and "smoky, sweet and verbose (in the best ways)" (Scoutmob), Rachel is a singer-songwriter whose voice weaves "luminous cadence [and] sweet melancholy" (Revista Antrópika) throughout her music. Making a mid-2000s move from the grievous and blissful Midwest to the wilds of New York City, the lanky, wordy Calvin grad gained a small following playing small cozy clubs on NYC's Lower East Side, where she's been writing, releasing albums, and opening for cult favorites like David Bazan and Over the Rhine.
After 11 years of big city life, buoyed by rich friendships and feeling led away from the ambition grind, she moved to Scotland to chase the longing in its landscape. On November 9, Rachel is excited to return to Grand Rapids to spend an intimate evening at the Ladies Literary Club singing tales of yearning, turning, and places spun over the last decade. These will be "piano-based stories that meld old soul and new learning... stories... of a gorgeous mistake" (No Depression).
