For over 100 years, the Calvin Oratorio Society has heralded the arrival of the Christmas season with performances of Handel’s Messiah.
For many, the Messiah experience is more than just a performance. “They don’t just sing it as a piece of beautiful music, you can see the heart and soul in the music … They believe what they’re singing. They treat the concert as a form of worship,” Pearl Shangkuan said. The same is true for the audience: “No matter what is happening in my own life or in the world around me, Messiah always feels relevant and profound. This year’s performance will feature nearly the whole program in its entirety for full chorus and solos. Sean Ivory is back as conductor, along with four soloists: Ben Clements, bass, Martin Bakari, tenor, Myka Murphy, mezzo soprano, and Linday Kessleman, soprano. The choir is comprised of students, staff, faculty, alumni, and other community members.
CALL members and their guests are invited to join us for a meaningful start to the Advent season.
