Zach Wagner, author Non-Toxic Masculinity: Recovering Healthy Male Sexuality, will speak about his experience as someone who grew up in the American evangelical church at the height of “Purity Culture" and discuss how believers have often adopted a sub-Christian vision of masculinity that focuses on the erotic and dehumanizes men and women. Noting how the search for a clear biblical script of “what it means to be a man” may be an unhelpful approach premised on a false question, Wagner will suggest some concrete ways that men can move beyond a toxic vision of masculinity.
