Dr. Sung Soo Lim will present a new perspective on China’s “One Belt, One Road Initiative” by referring to the three sacred treasures of Japan: the sword (weapons), the jewel (money), and the mirror (information). The speaker will also discuss China’s growing influence in the Middle East, including Israel, as well as implications for the U.S.
Dr. Lim is Associate Professor of Economics at Calvin University where he teaches regional economies, money and financial markets, intermediate macroeconomics, and introductory economics. His research projects examine a wide range of interdisciplinary topics in international economic development, and he has published numerous papers on economic development issues in countries in Africa, Middle East, and Asia. Recently, he presented his view on China and the Middle East at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (South Korea) and KBS, South Korea's representative public broadcasting television network. Dr. Lim grew up in South Korea and has traveled to 17 countries so far.
