The Creative Process
Drawings, Plates, Prints and Watercolors by Reynold Weidenaar
Born in 1915, Reynold Weidenaar was often controversial, engaging social, political and religious issues with satire and humor. He was viewed as a member of the American Regionalist art movement and widely regarded as a master print maker, committed to the quality of his work until his death in 1985. This exhibition features over 100 works of art and additional materials that help illustrate Weidenaar’s creative process as it related to his printmaking. Included are examples of all six major forms of printmaking: drypoint, mezzotint, aquatint, engraving, etching and softground.
Calvin joins three other Grand Rapids cultural institutions in celebrating Weidenaar’s centenary year. The Grand Rapids Public Museum presented an exhibition in the spring of 2015, and concurrent with Calvin’s exhibition are a major retrospective exhibition at the Grand Rapids Art Museum and a complimentary exhibition at Kendall College of Art and Design at Ferris State University.
