Calvin's Mathematics and Statistics Department welcomes Chris Moseley as their speaker for the first Colloquium of the new year.
Chris Moseley, Associate Professor of Mathematics at Calvin, will give a lecture entitled "Breaking the Rules" on Thursday, January 20 at 3:40 pm.
People often think of mathematics as an exercise in following rules. But some of the pioneering insights in mathematics came from breaking the rules. We’ll see how this happened in one case where a mathematician broke the rules and, in his words, “jumped into a fourth dimension” to solve a problem.
Join us for conversation in the Reading Room at 3:30 pm, immediately followed by the lecture in NH 276. (Snacks will not be served this week.)
