Composers are often influenced by various factors—their family background, societal trends, and other artists. Join the Calvin Symphonic Band for an exploration into “Intergenerational Inspiration,” a program which features modern-day composers incorporating musical ideas from those who have gone before them. The program will feature David Maslanka’s Heart Songs (which makes use of J.S. Bach chorales), Michael Colgrass’ Old Churches (which makes use of Gregoran Chant), and Norman Dello Joio’s Fantasies on a Theme by Haydn. Come enjoy an evening of diverse music that spans centuries.
