The Henry Institute Series on Public and Non-Profit Leadership presents: Ellen Zwarensteyn, Executive Director, Michigan Center for Civic Education. Ms. Zwarensteyn will share her own professional journey about how she became involved with Public and Non-Profit entities. All are welcome to attend.
Careers in government service and the non-profit sector require specific leadership, theoretical, and technical skills which are critical to successful operations and implementing sound public policy. This series hosts individuals who have chosen a career in public and non-profit leadership as they consider the challenges and rewards of their work. This week's guest is Ellen Zwarensteyn.
Ms. Zwarensteyn is the Executive Director for Michigan Center for Civic Education. She received a BA in International Relations with a focus on African Studies as well as a BA in Women’s Studies with cognate in Psychology in 1999, from Michigan State University. In 2004 she received her teaching certificate from Eastern Michigan University, and in 2012 she graduated from Grand Valley State University with an MS in Communications Studies, Political Identity and High School Debate. In 2006 Zwarensteyn began working for the Kentwood Public Schools and MOSSA as a teacher and director of debate/forensics.
The Michigan Center for Civic Education (MCCE) was established in 1982 as a non-partisan 501(C)3 nonprofit corporation. MCCE was created to be a premier organization dedicated to preparing an active and informed citizenry through law-related and civic education in Michigan. For more information on the MCCE click here.
