The responsibilities of journalists and news consumers for a healthy democracy.
Niala Boodhoo is the Startup Host/Executive Producer for the award-winning public radio program “The 21st” -- a statewide news and talk show produced by Illinois Public Media. She’s been a journalist since 2000 for The Miami Herald, Reuters in London and Washington, DC, and The Associated Press in Miami. Boodhoo got her start in public media in 2008 at WLRN, where she launched The Miami Herald Friday Business Report. Most recently, she hosted The Afternoon Shift, a two-hour, local weekday show on WBEZ/Chicago Public Media. Boodhoo is a 1996 graduate of Calvin College, where she majored in philosophy and psychology with a journalism minor. She also has an MSJ from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and an MA in Latin American and Caribbean Studies from Florida International University.
The talk is open to the college and wider community. Light refreshments will be served.
