The Calvin Science and Religion Forum (ScARF) welcomes Dr. Elizabeth Lewis Hall from Biola University. In this presentation, Dr. Hall will discuss how we as Christians can more effectively engage one another in conversations about difficult topics.
The love command is meant to encompass all areas of life for Christians, including the ways in which we engage with others around difficult topics. But what is love? Jesus modeled love for us, and this cruciform love can be applied to difficult conversations through the lenses of three virtues: humility, generosity, and courage. Psychological theory on dual processing can help us understand the obstacles to engaging well with others. We end by tapping into ancient Christian practices, validated by contemporary psychology, that assist us to cultivate the virtues and enable loving responses to others.
This event will be livestreamed on the Calvin University YouTube channel and is sponsored by the Calvin Science and Religion Forum (ScARF) with the support of a Scholarship and Christianity in Oxford Supporting Structures grant funded by the John Templeton Foundation.
