November 16 lecture: The History of the GEO Department at Calvin College
by Ralph Stearley
Before there was a GEO Dept, there was GGES. What did that mean? Before there was GGES, what did Calvin teach about Earth and its inhabitants? Who cared then and who cares now? This presentation will chronicle the past 70 years in the history of these controversial topics, from the roots of GGES to today’s GEO dept. There will be lots of great images of wonderful colleagues and friends, past and present: professors and students and others. We hope to review 70 years of history in 70 minutes. The wearing of GEO-appropriate attire: flannel shirt, typically plaid, is highly recommended, as a documentary photo of the distinguished audience will be accomplished. Neckties are not permitted due to safety regulations.
Retirement Reception for Ralph Stearley will follow seminar: 4:45 in the Dice Mineralogical Museum.
