When is a bird considered extinct? Determining extinction of any species prompts one to remember Carl Sagan’s assertion, “absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.” Believed to be extinct for more than sixty years, Ivory-billed Woodpeckers have been rediscovered in Arkansas and Florida. The evidence has been hotly debated since the first announcements in 2005 including deliberation about what demonstrates proof. But, I believe! Join me to hear my story of recording one of only five officially-accepted sightings of this spectacular woodpecker.
