John Hare asks "Does Morality Need God?"

Morality no longer makes sense-at least not in the context of today's beliefs. Without a connection to a set of theological premises, which are in the process of being abandoned in our elite Western culture, morality has no foundation, claims John Hare, Calvin professor of philosophy. He will address the problems that arise when we strive for morality without God. Among those are a gap between the moral demand on us and our natural capacities to meet it; a question of whether a commitment to morality is consistent with our long-term happiness; and a search for the source of the authority of morality. Hare will compare the theologically based responses to alternatives found in contemporary literature that attempt to resolve these problems from a worldview without God.
