Healing Our Divided Nation
Calvin College and Calvin Seminary, in partnership with the CRC Office of Social Justice, are bringing Q Commons to Grand Rapids for the sixth time. Join us in downtown Grand Rapids for a great evening of learning, conversation and meeting with others who share the same passion for helping our community flourish.
Our national speakers are David Brooks who will discuss how to cultivate virtue in a celebrity age, Kara Powell will discuss confronting our technology addiction, and Propaganda who will discuss the complicated moment we find ourselves in.
Locally, we will hear from three influential people who are making a difference in west Michigan:
- Joe Jones, Grand Rapids’ first black city commissioner in the second ward and President/CEO of Grand Rapids Urban League, will discuss efforts to close the racial equity gap.
- Luis Avila, a Calvin alum working as an associate at Varnum Law, will share his insights on local immigration issues.
- Ryan Roff, also a Calvin alum, is the Creative & Marketing Director of Bold Endeavors (boldSOCKS) and will share how their bold socks are making a statement and making a difference.
Don’t miss this fast paced evening of culturally engaging TED-style talks! Discount rates are available for students, couples, and groups of 8 or more.
