Spinning into Butter by Rebecca Gilman

Belmont College is a small, seemingly idyllic New England school with progressive ideas. However, the campus community is rocked by random acts of racism that cause administrators, faculty, and students to consider their own prejudices and attitudes about race, politically correct language, identity, and community. The process for these characters is painful and surprising. Rebecca Gilman’s powerful play refuses to offer simple answers and conclusions. Instead, it asks “what if this was us?” For the audience, hope lies in our ability to speak to these issues in our own families, churches and communities.
It's Calvin Theatre Company's 85th anniversary season and we are privileged to welcome you to our Create, Unite, Renew year of the arts! In 2018-19, we're exploring themes of gender, race, and reconciliation. We're glad for you to join in the storytelling and the conversation.
