The 80th anniversary of the publication of C.S. Lewis's Abolition of Man is being marked in 2023, a book that has been described as "an all but indispensable introduction to the corpus of Lewis's writings." The Henry Institute for the Study of Christianity and Politics at Calvin University and the Center for Religion, Culture & Democracy sponsored two public plenaries marking the occasion featuring Michael Ward and Carl Trueman.
On Friday, March 24, Michael Ward presented “The Sublime Waterfall?” Ward is an English literary critic and theologian working at the University of Oxford as a member of the Faculty of Theology and Religion. He is also employed as Professor of Apologetics at Houston Christian University in Texas. Ward is the author of a number of books, including Planet Narnia: The Seven Heavens in the Imagination of C.S. Lewis and co-editor of both The Cambridge Companion to C.S. Lewis and C.S. Lewis at Poets’ Corner. He studied English at Oxford, Theology at Cambridge, and has a PhD in Divinity from St. Andrews.
A second lecture by Carl Trueman was held on Saturday, March 25 from 11am to noon.
