Title: Effect of calcineurin inhibition on V2O5-induced pulmonary inflammation and fibrosis in C57BL/6J mice.
Summary: Interstitial lung disease (ILD) forms scar tissue in the alveoli and impairs gas exchange. Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is an ILD of unknown cause. In this seminar, Elianna will discuss research she conducted, using mouse models of IPF that lead her to conclude that calcineurin inhibition plays a role in IPF development and contributes to normal healing and prevents fibrosis.

Title: Developing Bulk Wounding Methods to Study Plasma Membrane Repair in Skeletal Muscle Fibers
Summary: Dysferlin is a membrane-bound protein involved in the wound repair process in skeletal muscle cells. In healthy muscle fibers, it forms “patches” at the repair site. To better understand how dysferlin works, Kelly and her colleagues developed bulk wounding assays to investigate the repair process of many muscle fibers simultaneously and to explore potential roles of other membrane proteins involved in the process. In this seminar, she will explain these experiments, some ways that the assays should be further refined based on the results, and some implications for muscle disease research.
