Renegotiating body on stage and in the world
In this talk, choreographer Molly Shanahan will speak about her own work on body image and explore practices for reconciling negative feelings toward the body through tenderness, forgiveness, and time. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in simple movement prompts, writing, and/or no-pressure drawing through which we can begin to re-imagine body image beyond the confines of the visual.
Molly Shanahan is the Artistic Director of Molly Shanahan/Mad Shak, the Chicago-based company she founded in 1994 to support her research in choreography, performance, and collaboration.
This event is part of the Create.Unite.Renew arts line-up at Calvin University, and is supported in part by an award from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs. Sponsored by the Kinesiology Department, Create.Unite.Renew, Gender Studies, and the Sexuality Series.
