Join us for a screening of the 2019 documentary Stories of Intersex and Faith (run time 80 min), followed by Q&A with director Megan DeFranza and documentary participants Anunnaki Ray Marquez and Sarah Beck.
Megan K. DeFranza, PhD, is a counselor, author, keynote speaker, and filmmaker helping people heal from harmful messages about sex, gender, and sexuality in Christianity and American culture. Combining careful scholarship with charitable conversations across differences, she invites people onto the common ground of our shared humanity. Dr. DeFranza has authored and contributed to several books, including Sex Difference in Christian Theology: Male, Female, and Intersex in the Image of God, and directed the documentary Stories of Intersex and Faith. Her work has elevated the voices of intersex persons of faith, and prioritizes both Scripture and the new science of gender.
Anunnaki Ray Marquez is an intersex activist, public chaplain, seminarian, and TEDx speaker who has educated at universities, medical schools, non-profit organizations, and churches. He is a parent of three children, and was married for 33 years before his beloved husband died after a long battle with leukemia.
Sarah Beck is a communications professional with 20 years of experience in writing, editing, public relations, management, and crisis communications. She has worked for global technology companies, the Texas governor's office, and volunteered for InterConnect, an intersex support group. She currently works as a freelance writer and editor and lives in Austin, Texas with her husband and two dogs.
