Meet Suzy Karadsheh '01
Suzy Karadsheh (Kah-rod-chay) is an Egyptian native—born and raised by the shores of the Mediterranean in Port Said, Egypt. She is the author of the New York Times bestselling book, The Mediterranean Dish Cookbook: 120 Bold and Healthy Recipes You’ll Make on Repeat (Clarkson Potter, 2022), and the CEO of The Mediterranean Dish, the leading digital media publisher for modern Mediterranean cooking and lifestyle.
Since its inception in 2014 Suzy’s site, TheMediterraneanDish.com has served more than 100 million readers seeking to live a healthier lifestyle and millions more through the company’s social channels.
In 2018, the company expanded its services to include its own branded line of Mediterranean food products including olive oils from Italy, Spain, and Greece, spices, and more.
When she first established her site, it was for the sake of her Michigan-born daughters, Dara and Hannah—so that they will know the flavors and the heart of Suzy’s homeland. It soon became a virtual table of millions. What began as a way to pass on her cultural heritage to her daughters has become Suzy’s lifelong mission: to build community through food and to inspire joy and healthier living.
Her dedication, authentic voice, and charming personality have allowed Suzy to reach millions. Her debut book made the top 5 New York Times Bestseller list in October of this year, leading to features on Good Morning America and CNN, in addition to numerous print and online outlets such as Forbes, Today, Food Network, Well and Good, Huffington Post, Mother Tongue, Real Simple and more.
Suzy’s journey from Egypt to the USA began here as a student at Calvin University—she is a proud 2001 alumna. And her career also began at Calvin where she worked for nearly 11 years before leaving Grand Rapids, Michigan.
She now lives in the heart of the American south, Atlanta, Georgia, with her husband, two daughters, and dog Max.
