The Mathematics and Statistics Colloquium on March 31 features educator and president of the NCTM, Kevin Dykema.
Kevin Dykema will speak on the shift "From Math by Memorizing to Math by Understanding."
We must ensure that each and every student receives a high quality mathematics education that promotes reasoning throughout the grades. Explore how the 8 Standards for Mathematical Practice from NCTM's Principles to Actions along with productive struggle can be utilized to help promote this deep reasoning. Engage in tasks and activities to illustrate how to effectively integrate these into the teaching and learning of mathematics.
Join us in the Reading Room for refreshments, immediately followed by the lecture in NH 276.
