The 80th anniversary of the publication of C.S. Lewis's Abolition of Man is being marked in 2023, a book that has been described as "an all but indispensable introduction to the corpus of Lewis's writings." The Henry Institute for the Study of Christianity and Politics at Calvin University and the Center for Religion, Culture & Democracy sponsored two public plenaries marking the occasion featuring Michael Ward and Carl Trueman.The first (on Friday, March 24) featured Michael Ward presenting “The Sublime Waterfall?” from 4-5pm.
On Saturday, March 25 from 11am-noon, Carl Trueman presented “Prometheus Unbound and Man Abolished,” Trueman is professor of biblical and religious studies at Grove City College in Pennsylvania and has written more than a dozen books, including Histories and Fallacies: Problems Faced in the Writing of History, Luther on the Christian Life, The Creedal Imperative, and The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self: Cultural Amnesia, Expressive Individualism, and the Road to Sexual Revolution. Trueman has a PhD in Church History from the University of Aberdeen and a M.A. in Classics from the University of Cambridge.
