Pictorial growth patterns are low floor-high ceiling tasks; a task in which learners at all different levels can make sense of the problem and find a way to problem solve (low floor) while also providing opportunities to extend and engage learners in more challenging mathematics (high ceiling).
How might you analyze and generalize these types of patterns? What do we mean by algebraic thinking? In what ways can these patterns promote algebraic thinking? What tools help learners grow in their ability to analyze and generalize patterns? How might teachers use these tasks to promote algebraic thinking?
Join us as we, together, explore the answers to these questions based on research and experiences I have had working with prospective and practicing teachers.
