Are you interested in studying abroad during your time at Calvin, or are you in the Asian Studies program and interested in hearing about Korea? Or are you a student (or staff!) looking for some free snacks who wants to spend a few minutes listening to an Asian Studies major tell you why Korea is fantastic and why you should go (with photographic evidence)?

If you can answer yes to any of these questions, then come to student Rebekah Hendrian’s talk on her Fall 2018 Semester spent studying at Calvin’s partner university in Pohang, South Korea: Handong Global University (HGU). Take a short break from your studies to hear about Rebekah’s experiences as a student and intern, HGU and what it has to offer, Rebekah’s favorite apps for navigating Korea and elsewhere, the best things she did, and why she thinks studying abroad (especially in Korea) was one of the best decisions she’s ever made.

pohang-talkRebekah is an Asian Studies major/IR minor with just one semester left to go until she graduates. As an adult student, she has had an assortment of jobs before she ended up at Calvin, but her life-long interest in East Asian art, culture, history, and languages finally led her to the Calvin Asian Studies program in the hopes of using that interest toward a meaningful career. She first decided to study Korean after falling in love with the logic and ease of Hangul (the Korean writing system) and found out that the only easy part is learning how to read and write it. After graduation, she hopes to continue studying Korean language, literature, and culture, and teach English in South Korea while she decides where to go next.
