Cornell University’s New York State Agricultural Experiment Station, in Geneva, New York offers a Summer Research Scholars Program where undergraduate students can participate in exciting research projects in one of four disciplines including entomology horticulture, plant pathology/plant-microbe biology, and food science. The student interns will have the opportunity to work with faculty, graduate students, postdocs, and staff on research projects that can be laboratory or field-based. Many of the basic research projects offered through this program have a translational alignment with practical problem solving applications for the agricultural community. The goal of the program is to provide undergraduates with the opportunity to plan and conduct experiments, evaluate data, communicate results, and learn about opportunities in agricultural and food research.

Students will have the opportunity to participate in other career-related activities, including trips to farms, orchards, and vineyards in the area. Other touring opportunities will also be available, which could include weekend trips to Niagara Falls, the Eastman (Kodak) House, Cooperstown (Baseball Hall of Fame), hiking in the Finger Lakes region, etc.

Geneva, NY is a gorgeous place to spend the summer, and living 2 blocks away from a beautiful lake has its benefits.

Cornell did a really good job of welcoming me into the lab and preparing me for grad school.

Specifics

• Nine week internships in conducting research in a faculty program at the Experiment Station
• Gain research experience and learn about the research conducted on the Geneva campus
• Additional programs and trips will be offered
• Benefits include housing, assistance with transportation costs, and a $4,000 stipend
• Starts on June 1, 2016 (May 31 for travel) and runs through July 29, 2016 (July 30 for travel)
