SURF gives you more than just work experience in a lab. As a SURF fellow you will spend 10 weeks conducting your own small research project or working on part of an ongoing research investigation, develop your technical skills, and participate in a special weekly seminar series that introduces you to rapidly progressing research areas.
Each year, approximately 130 undergraduate students from around the U.S. come to Mayo Clinic's campus in Rochester, Minnesota, to work beside both young and established scientists on a broad range of biomedical research questions.
A limited number of fellowships are also available at the Mayo Clinic campuses in Jacksonville, Florida and Scottsdale, Arizona.
Compensation
The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program award is $5,000 (minus taxes) for 10 weeks. From this stipend, students are responsible for their own travel, housing and meals. Student housing is available starting at around $300 a week.
