South African Shark Conservancy

The South African Shark Conservancy (SASC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the conservation and sustainable utilization of marine resources through research, education and outreach. Since its inception in 2007, SASC has developed partnerships with academic and conservation organizations around the globe, and has become well-known in South Africa for its inclusive and holistic approach to conservation and management initiatives. For prospective interns, your work will focus not just on research, but will also include in-depth exposure to the day-to-day operation and management of a non-profit organization.

SASC offers interns the opportunity to become involved in a unique and exciting approach to marine conservation. Interns may be involved in field research, outreach and educational programs as well as desktop studies and organizational development projects. Our research and outreach projects are specifically designed to promote a well-rounded approach to conservation, working with various fishing sectors, research institutes and governmental organizations.

To ensure that you get the most out of your experiences, SASC accepts no more than six interns per month. We are looking for interns with a biological background or interest in shark biology and conservation for a period of one to three months. Join our internship program and gain valuable insight into the conservation management of sharks and other living marine resources.

To apply for a place in the SASC Internship Program, interested applicants must complete and submit the Intern Application Form together with a CV and reduced jpeg photo of yourself. Upon receipt, SASC will review your application and inform you if your application was successful.

Interns should be students currently enrolled at an academic institution and studying towards a science major or graduated scientists with a minimum of a BS with a science major.
