The Land Conservancy of West Michigan seeks a Stewardship Intern to assist in caring for the Land Conservancy’s network of 16 nature preserves located throughout an eight-county service area. The Land Conservancy of West Michigan is an independent, non-profit land trust dedicated to helping people protect, care for, and enjoy natural land in West Michigan. The Stewardship Intern will support the Stewardship Coordinator in managing the Land Conservancy’s nature preserves.

Potential Duties and Responsibilities:
? Assist in implementing management plans for Land Conservancy nature preserves
? Manage invasive species using a variety of appropriate mechanical and chemical methods
? Safely operate a variety of outdoor equipment such as loppers, chainsaws, and backpack sprayers
? Maintain trails, signs, and other preserve infrastructure
? Assist with preserve monitoring, data collection, and data management
? Work with and help coordinate volunteers for public workdays and special projects
? Assist in developing management plans and preserve-related outreach materials and programs
? Other tasks as assigned by the Stewardship Coordinator

Qualifications:
? At least two years of coursework towards a degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource
Management, or a related field
? Some experience identifying Michigan flora and natural communities
? Ability to do physical work (lift and carry 30 pounds) in remote areas, on rough terrain, and in inclement
weather
? Ability to work independently with minimal supervision on outdoor and indoor tasks
? Strong organization skills and attention to detail
? Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and ArcGIS
? Valid Michigan Commercial Pesticide Applicator License, chainsaw safety certification, or willingness to
obtain both (certification fees will be covered)
? Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (mileage will be covered)
Terms of Employment: This is a full-time, 12-week position, running approximately mid-May to mid-August.
Work reporting location is 400 Ann St. NW, Grand Rapids, MI, with daily work locations ranging throughout the
Land Conservancy’s service area. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required. Pay is $11-12/hour.

Terms of Employment: This is a full-time, 12-week position, running approximately mid-May to mid-August. Work reporting location is 400 Ann St. NW, Grand Rapids, MI, with daily work locations ranging throughout the Land Conservancy’s service area. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required. Pay is $11-12/hour.
